The litany of xtian bloodshed is long and always in the name of their fucking god. The John Hagee's, WBC's and Terry Jones' of the world exist to remind the rest of us how shitty xtians can be if left to their own devices.
Yea, I hate having to remind both atheists and even moderate and liberal Christians that Christianity is only civil in the west because of secular governments that protect dissent and pluralism. Their early history was never that at all.
And I also hate having to explain that the colonies before the founders were just as divided and tribal as many sects of Islam are today. Freedom of religion DID NOT start at the Mayflower, it started with the signing of the Constitution and the First Amendment.
But any kind of fascism can arise with anything left to it's own devices. Businesses can be abusive too. Political parties can be abusive too. Nationalism can go off the rails too.
