You're shoe horning a modern scientific/naturalist understanding onto a culture that lacked that. You call them ignorant of naturalistic scientific information when the subject of their information still relevant to you in no way addresses science. Scientific understanding is a moving target. It would have been illogical for God to have imparted such understanding. <-- that would limit it to a single timeframe in human history.
