I don't think that it's important what any of us "want". What matters is reality. If the question is merely upon the subject of desire however, then I personally find it strange, yes. The notion of a deity sitting high above and dishing out commands and laws based on its own whims is frankly distressing. It'd be no different from having a tyrant for a political leader.
Having an indifferent deity that created the universe and then left, a deistic god, would be preferable to be honest. If it left behind some means for us to distinguish that it had created the universe, that would be helpful.

If you believe it, question it. If you question it, get an answer. If you have an answer, does that answer satisfy reality? Does it satisfy you? Probably not. For no one else will agree with you, not really.
