In Islam, Angels do not descend without a reason, that reason is mainly to deliver a message from god. Since messages descend only on prophets, and muslims believe that Mohammed is the last prophet, it's almost impossible to see these entities.
About demons, they only concentrate on the human subconscious, they also don't appear, the Quran stated that they whisper only, nothing else was said about them visiting humans or show themselves to humans.
Philosophy more than science, I know. But if angels appeared people will believe in god ; god doesn't want an easy path like that. That's why I -personally- believe that non of them would appear to any of us.
The devil in Islam is the little dark voice inside your mind which tells you not to believe. Where does he live or how does he transfer those ideas to us ? nobody knows but god.
But a little bit on science : maybe scientists can't detect demons, just like 500 years ago humans couldn't detect viruses & bacteria. Telling a human that small "creatures" which you can't see are causing you sickness, nobody will believe you & would demand an evidence.
Well, sometimes it's impossible to fetch an evidence without the proper tool.
Orrr ... maybe the reason why science hasn't found evidence of demons and angels is the same reason science hasn't found evidence of Centaurs and Werewolves.
