I don't particularly wish for a god. Maybe it is comforting to others but not to me. If there were a god, he must be incapable or malevolent given how the world is today.
Recently, I heard a story of a local girl near me who has autism. She was drugged and raped by an older man for a few days before wandering home to negligent parents. Sickening. Think of how terrifying it was for that little girl, who already struggles with daily life.
Now tell me, which is more comforting? Knowing it happens because there is no "big man in the sky" to stop it? Or knowing that there is a god but he stands by and watches as she is violated and tortured? And does nothing?
This is why not believing in god, at times, has been a comfort for me.
