Well I guess perhaps in quantity a lot of Darwin's ideas are outdated. Since science's understanding(s) of natural selection of today is different to Darwin's and improved.
BUT! What about if you not just include the quantity, but also the quality. The whole discovery of the groundbreaking concept of natural selection, of 'design without a designer' is GENIUS and still applies today and that concept in and of itself is NOT outdated. So perhaps a lot of Darwin's ideas are outdated. But his most important key concept that is the core of 'Origin' - :Natural selection - is NOT outdated. I mean it might be a different [i]kind of natural selection, but its still natural selection. Its still so called 'design without a designer' and that's whats key, THAT'S what's NOT outdated. And without that key concept the newer understanding(s) of natural selection today would not work. So perhaps in quantity Darwin's ideas are a bit outdated but in quality they or it is not.
So perhaps it would be right so say something like: "Perhaps a lot of Darwin's ideas are now outdated BUT his core idea, his key concept that is so groundbreaking, is far from outdated and is still scientifically true today. Natural selection - 'design without a designer'. Natural progress and change that gives the illusion of design.
Feel free to correct me in any mistakes I have made. And in case you mention, I know that Wallace also knew about evolution too, but Darwin is the one who made it so groundbreaking because of his book 'Origin'.
