Any time someone declares "X is always X" when referring to a human being - it is a practical guarantee they are wrong to varying degrees.
Theists can be perfectly rational, as can be atheists.
By definition, religious belief is an irrational belief due to its requirement of faith, which denies evidence. If it had evidence - it would not require faith.
Believing in God doesn't mean you are incapable of crossing a road safely, most theists manage to function reasonably well most of the time.
