I've got a few friends whom I've known since I was 5. We force ourselves to keep in touch by purposely making handwritten letters or sending cards with little notes. One of the guys gets all happy inside - he lives in Germany right now where everything is old and I always close my letters with a wax seal and rose impress, all old-fashioned-like. It makes the keeping in touch part a bit more fun and engaging. Plus sending silly little gifts. A friend of mine in France sends me Mermaid's Tears and stuff from the beaches of Nice, and I send him bits of bracken and pressed flowers from the mountains down here. Or a Death Star tea infuser to another friend in Germany, who sent me a necklace with a rose pendant on it. When you start doing that with your friends, it makes it easier.
