It is a mental thing, but then: so is everything. You state that some massive amount more 6 and 9 year olds aren't even capable of understanding sexual choices... I believe this is suspect. Do you have any data to support this claim? After all, I had a sexual education class in 5th grade (I was 10)... and the other girls in class had had that class one year previous (many of them were nine). I happen to remember pretty clearly that when I asked to join in (I had thought it was for tea, in my defense): I was quickly shot down by the rest of my classmates, that I didn't want to go.

If someone's ready to educate someone by the age of nine, I should think that at least capable of understanding the subject matter. If someone is masturbating to manipulating boys sexually for her own appeasement by the age of six, I should think that they are at least capable of understanding what it is they are doing. Especially when they've masturbated with their sister already Among other things... NOW: I am a very ordinary person, are you suggesting to me that my rate of the understanding of things is considerably higher than that of the vast vast majority of other persons?

And I disagree on the matter of consent, since they are plenty capable of consent... they've only been screaming "NO" since they were two.

The only people I've ever heard argue otherwise are people who themselves are attracted to children.

I don't find most children attractive... just the attractive ones. Same for adults, dogs, and irish men.

Even if a tiny percentage are capable of consent, I'm more than willing to sacrifice a few years of sexual activity for a tiny percentage of children in order to protect the rest of them. Age of consent laws, by in large, are good laws.

Do you exactly see protesters in the streets screaming for arbitrary 'age of consent' lines to be enacted earlier?

Adults are alone with children often, considered to be responsible for their wellbeing... often. In most cases, when the child is having sex with these people and not enjoying it and not consenting to it: word gets out pretty fast. Whether an age line is drawn or not: rape remains a punishable offense.

And it's not like the age line is stopping it from happening

Age laws are gates, made by those ignorant to the reasoning behind the fence's construction. My question: why is there a fence constructed in the first place?
