Quote:The historical Jesus Christ has more evidence for His existence than many other figures from the ancient world whose existence we take for granted.
The one thing that needs to be pointed out is that those other historical figures are not typically assumed to be gods-made-flesh who performed supernatural feats and who reward believers and punish non-believers. When a Christian puts forth the argument that "a man named Jesus existed in that time" he isn't trying to convince me that there was just another man who lived during that time, preached to masses of people and was crucified for sedition. It's a big leap from "a guy named Jesus existed at the time" to "he was the living god of the universe made flesh, performed miracles and committed suicide by cross."
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
