Are you bloody serious?
I didn't realize putting women in bags and chopping people's heads off for shit that's no one else's business was "civilized".
And yes I am quite serious. Most of the arab countries that exist today are previous colonies, and were, as a matter of fact, quite civilized in their pre-cold war days. Well, most of them still could be if not for the political issues they are experiencing.
In contrast, countries like Dubai, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia are quite civilized I'd say. No civil strife, no lawlessness, no manner of chaos, and except for Saudi Arabia, they're quite cosmopolitan and offer tourists and indeed their own citizens a lot of priviliges and benefits.
For example in Dubai, the government does not tax it's own people.
Lebanon, in particular Beirut is called the Jewel of the Middle east, and Paris of the Middle eastfor a reason.
All the other countries for example, Syria, or Egypt, have been subject to wars and civil strife, but are otherwise great places to live and visit, in my opinion.
