This is a spoiler, hasn't aired in the series... should com up in Episode 9 of Season 4
Only open is you are not afraid of spoilers, or have read beyond the 3rd book, a Storm of Swords.
Joffrey dies.
During his own wedding feast, after ordering Tyrion to fetch him some wine... He drinks it and snuffs it. Using the same compound that the septon tried to use on the Red priestess, on Dragonstone, where Stannis is... I think it was on season 2, ep.1.
Bonus: Notice what Margeary's mum does to the hair net she presented Sansa some time before the wedding...
So then... Margeary becomes queen consort with no king... oh, my!
Not to worry, I've read all the books and beyond - meaning the spoiler chapters of Winds of Winter. I'm just pissed at Joffrey because I've been rewatching Season 2. By the way:
I'm hoping it'd happen by the 1st or second episode of season 4. Storywise, not much happens between the Red and Purple weddings and if they are going to cover Tyrion's trial and escape and the whole drama at the wall, they can't push it off to the penultimate episode.
Besides, it's serve the little shit right. Even his death is not significant enough to be worthy of the 9th episode.
The poison used is called 'The Strangler' and it was Maester Cressen of Dragonstone - not a Septon - who tried to poison Melisandre.
Oh, and its Margaery's grandmum - Oleanna 'Queen of Thorns' Tyrell - who fixes Sansa's hairnet made of purple Amethysts.
Also, after Joffrey, his younger brother Tommen is crowned king and Margaery is currently married to him. Though the marriage hasn't been consummated due obvious reasons.
