Rape should be illegal because it's immoral (in your humble opinion), but it's illegal because it's a trespass on personal liberties by one entity on another (in our society).
Some say the same about abortion.
Excluding the fact that you feel it is immoral, abortion is legal and many people don't feel the same way you do. What's your argument other than immorality?
Rahul has an excellent point which you seem to discount with a blanket response of "don't have abortions". People are going to have abortions. So long as people are able to get pregnant and don't want to be, that will happen. And don't kid yourself, your daughter might just want to hide the fact she got pregnant from you so badly because of her religious upbringing, that she goes to one of these unaccredited, un-monitored, unsanctioned small office practices, and bleed out to death on the table. Would it not be better for her to have gone to the doctor, and gotten the medical staff to do what she would have done unsafely? Legal or not, there's girls that will do anything they need to, and people that will accommodate them.
Sitting in the corner yelling, "Shouldn't have gotten an abortion then, B!" Isn't going to do a damn thing to help this issue in our society. Addressing it has gotten us this far. What's your (proactive) alternative?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
