Sure there is. It's so obviously and verifiably works that you implicitly trust it in virtually everything resulting from modern science and technology that you touch. But in case of prayer all you can do is to scream to drown out what it says, for otherwise what it says would be too much for your feeble mind and needy, wish thinking personality to bear.

So why are you praying? Why not do any of the innumerable other things whose effectiveness is equally impossible (for you) to systematically verify? Just because you wishthink really hard it makes prayer better than any of the other mumbo jumbo?
