If you believe it would be possible for intelligent life to gather enough knowledge and create or govern enough energy to create an environment in which to exist beyond the lifespan of it's sun, it would then have the remaining lifespan of it's universe to continue gathering enough knowledge to create an environment in which to exist beyond that lifespan. To believe this would be impossible with the relative tiny amount of knowledge we have at present would be premature.
