You got it wrong. It's:
Do you believe in god? No
Do you know for sure that god doesn't exist? No
There is no contradiction here at all. The general position of Atheists is one of humility in accepting that we (human beings) are far too limited to pretend to know more than we possibly could.
With that, Atheists naturally reject the arrogant claims of religion, which is man made, but also accept the very real fact that we (human beings) do not have enough knowledge to conclusively determine that a higher power of some sort does not exist.
