The God is still the same God. I'll even grant you that Jesus makes it clear that the Old Testament stuff is no longer needed (which he doesn't). The question is...what kind of all powerful God would EVER have use for burnt pigeons and why were they EVER required as an apology for giving birth????! This doesn't strike you as odd at all? Really?
Back then they believed God was literally up in the sky above the firmament and the way to please him be to get some pleasing aromas up there to him and once pleased he'll forgive their sins. What matters is you have a concept there of one God who is pleased/displeased by your moral standards/sin but is willing to forgive his people should they repent. So it can be seen as Christianity in it's embryonic stage, if Christianity is the true religion and not a heretical sect of Judaism gone mad. The pagan/classical gods such as Zeus had burnt offerings made to them as well so it was fairly standard practice at the time. The Jews/Hebrews being monotheists still had a very different kind of God.
Okay which has greater penetrating power, the Sword of Christ or the Prepuce of Christ (Remember, there may be 26 of the latter.)?
