Not getting laid has the same effect. I'm sure sperm cells only have a finite lifetime and will eventually die or be ejected naturally. You've heard it here first guys: poor skills with the ladies leads to the end of a potentally innumerable amount of lives. It's a sin to fuck and it's a sin to be lame. You can't win.
At least if you ejaculate on purpose, you're putting those doomed sperm cells to SOME use before they meet their demise.
