I say, no, it doesn't make you look bad, it makes them look bad. Atheists like any other label, ultimately we are still individuals first.
But unfortunately when it comes to atheists, if one atheist does something bad, it means all atheists are evil, immoral people. If one Christian does something bad, he's not a true Christian because a true Christian wouldn't do that.
No, my point is if we start using the "guilt by association" trap, we will end up like them.
I HAVE seen atheists say "true atheist", not much mind you, but it has happened.
Evolution is the same no matter our labels and we as a species have always been capable of doing both good and bad and our behavior is a range as of both good and bad.
I have also seen atheists say "when we become the majority we will treat you better". NO, when you look at the collective behavior of our species, you far too often see once the oppressed becomes the oppressor. That is a result of evolution, not our labels.
I judge atheists the same way I judge Muslims and Jews and Christians and Hindus and Buddhists ect ect ect. I can like you as an individual without liking everything you might do or claim.
A much undervalued book in atheism which I think is just as important as "The God Delusion" is Victor Stinger's "The New Atheism", which conveys humanity's common existence.
