That is not what I find absurd. The real absurdity lies in the notion that there would be some way for that water to be forced to the surface without leaving geological evidence, and that it could then somehow disappear, apparently into thin air.
Yes, I've seen all the usual suspects ad hoc explanations, and they don't hold water (yuk yuk).
