I didn't, the Lexicon did... "A.used of the inmost thoughts, feelings, purposes, of the soul"
More to the point, why do you still insist on the litteral reading?
Have you ever used the phrase(s) "kicked in the nuts" or "stabbed in the back" when you felt betrayed?
Would you understand that if someone else said either phrase to you?
Or are you just pretending to be an ignorant, intentional dick?
While I have used terminology just like this, it's always got that 'it's like being' tag in front of it.
And certainly writing or translating or transcribing a book that is supposed to be THE BASIS for all existence from here until doomsday, I wouldn't be using "and dude it was way too cool for school, esse" To describe something that was wondrous or amazing, breath taking.
I also wouldn't use the term 'knocked off' to describe a murder.
Or the word hooplah if I was trying to convey the term 'nonsense'....

Thanks to Cinjin for making it more 'sig space' friendly.
