Like many other posters, my missus and I were together for quite some time before we were married. No pressure from family or society or married friends or anything like that. It was sort of, 'What'll we do this week-end?' 'I dunno. We could get married, I suppose...' and we did.
My gran on Da's side - a sweet old duck - was funny. She sent us a post card saying, 'Now that you're married, you can give me great grand children. Get on with it!!'
As far as religion influencing the decision, all that happened was that some of our friends were concerned about us having a mixed marriage - I'm a Catholic atheist and Ellen's a Jewish atheist.
