We can assume that god can see the threads of the future and select (by his actions) the one he wishes to pursue. Or that the future cannot be changed and god is simply along for the ride. Or that god can "see into our hearts" and thus judge whether or not we could handle a particular situation or event. Each of these has its own considerations (or problems, if you will).
No?
I'm just wondering what would have been the consequences of Job failing. What if he was simply pushed beyond his ability to take any more and cried out as his wife had suggested? What if he cursed god and died? Wouldn't that mean that god was wrong and Satan was right? What would happen then? Does god admit defeat and leave for another reality? Does he just make all of the witnesses disappear and clean up the mess? Does he turn back time to the start of the book and change the script?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
