That is not at all accurate. There is no requirement that information be preserved. Any amount of change may occur.
You are focused on the wrong thing. It is a blind algorithm encompassing random change and reproductive success.

researcher haven't found that to be true - after panspermia lost it appeal due to ultraviolet radiation studies demonstrating that bacterial spores couldn't survive inter-stellar travel, researchers turned their attention to focusing on finding chemical routes that would produce molecular building blocks. after researching for decades, paul davies wrote investigators are baffled at this point but won't admit it publicly due to concern that funding will be curtailed. so stealthy, have turned their attention back to panspermia with a twist which is travel only within earth's solar system; hence the big hullabaloo about mars and it's moons.
