Cats require fewer resources and manage themselves. That is invaluable for me given my work schedule.
The equivalent size dog (to replace one of my cats) is usually surly, scared, yappy, extremely dumb paired with the usual dog "neediness". I hate small dogs.
Foot print and requirements-wise, cats meet mine perfectly.
A dog won't.
And I will not put a larger dog through 10 hours of isolation a day.
Cats can take it, Dogs won't.
