It's impossible to try and come up with any stats for "true" believers and nonbelievers. For every Catholic teenager shedding his belief in Science class there could be a deist physicist who can't shake that nagging feeling that there's a greater power.
A scientist friend of mine, whom I've had many philosophical discussions about atheism and existentialism and the like, recently confessed that he believes "in something" but not in tune with any religion.
