Also like Christianity, if you tell a fundamentalist feminist that she's a fundie, she simply points to another, even more exreme feminist and says "I'm not an extremist; that's an extremist!" And when you do find one who admits to being extremist, like Christians, they argue that their extremism is completely justified.
In my case, "radical feminist" doesn't tend to mean "feminist who is hostile to everything mainstream" but it does mean "feminist who doesn't like transsexuals." No matter how abrasive they are to everyone else or how angry they are, if they aren't transphobic, they won't call themselves radical feminists (or radfems).
