Ugh, I hate the movie. Obviously, nothing can be flawlessly converted from graphic novel to movie, but the movie missed the point of the novel and dulled shit down. V was not for "democracy" and "the people", he was an anarchist. And Evey was a 16 year old who tries to be a prostitute and at one point got sexually and emotionally involved with a 30-40 year old dude. There was some philosophy about creation and destruction that was center to the novel as well.
Having never read the graphic novel, I'll admit that for what it is, V for Vendetta is another one of my favorite movies. It may not be an accurate translation of the material, but then again neither was Wanted or I Am Legend.
For the record, I think the Wanted series is way better than the movie. Same idea as with V, with the original idea being lost in translation. However whereas Vendetta does well and can stand by itself as a great movie under it's own ideas and premise as presented, the Wanted movie is just a dumb popcorn flick that completely misses the point.
Sort of like the Starship Trooper movie, the only thing it shares with the source material are the names (full disclosure: I love the Starship Trooper movie, but for very different reasons than I love the original Robert A. Heinlein book). The Wanted comic is all about the amorality of a 'what-if' world where super villains had won and killed all of the heroes and rewritten history/memories/reality itself to hide that fact from everyone else and set themselves up as secret masters of the world. It's a lot of fun, too bad they turned it into a boring Angelina Jolie vehicle...
