The very first Christians were outraged by the same passages, these were always seen in the context of problems to deal with and attempt to explain. It's important to understand that the God of the Bible, even before the coming of the Messiah, was first and foremost a God of the oppressed, the poor the needy and the dispossessed. The Jews when in a position of power may have deviated/sinned from this central fact but that's what the Christian God is. The first thing God did in covenant with his people was to free them from slavery in Egypt.
