People 2000 years from now will definitely look at the way we were, the same way we look at people who lived 2000 years ago. The world does tend to get better over time, though it's slower in some places than others. That's why it's a bit weird when religious people call earth hell. Hell is supposed to be the worst place imaginable, and for some people this life is hell, but I think for most it does get better and better the more we really strive for equality.

People twenty years from now are going to look at generations preceding mine as if they were from 2,000 years ago. Mostly because, in some crucial ways, they may as well have been.

That's not just regarding marriage equality; fixing everything the Baby Boomers fucked up over the last thirty years is going to take a long, long time.

Of course I didn't mean to imply that it would take thousands of years. You don't have to go back very far. For some regions, you don't even have to go into the past. Just look at how some third world countries are.
