I hate this argument. No matter who is on top we are still the same species. Our capacity to be cruel or compassionate is evolutionary, not label based. However, that should not be used as excuse to either claim moral superiority, or coddle the insecurities of those who make absurd claims.

I do think the more humans understand nature and psychology, the less of a priority labels will be. I do not however see our grouping as an aspect of evolution ever going away.
