What married couples without children, or the court protections that are involved about not having to testify against ones spouse? Why does the government encourage marriage at all, gay or straight.

I'm not just talking about children. I'm talking about spouses, too. When you someone else's well-being is dependent on your actions, it gives you motivation to do things like provide for them financially.

I don't know what the logic behind the not having to testify against one's spouse is.

Homosexuality sure can happen in nature, doesn't mean it is right. Dogs eat poop. Some species kill the smallest of their young. Some females kill and eat the man after sex. That does not mean humans need to emulate the lower animals.
