The population being large is only important as long as our tech is even close to being on the same level as other peoples. Do I have memories of bulrathi and sakkra throwing their people at other empires in a desperate attempt to take them down? Why yes... yes I do.
Hard to properly blitz with them in a huge galaxy, though.
