The Founding Fathers were reacting to xtian atrocities from the century before. It was hardly 1,000 years ago and if xtians had the same power as muslim fuckwads do today they'd be burning each other at the stake. We can thank The Enlightenment for pushing you people into the closet.
Again. You can try to dismiss the inconsistencies, fuck-ups and flat out contradictions all you like but your holy (holey?) books are a mere testament to the desire to control people. "God's love" my ass. Bunch of brutal, sanctimonious bastards.
First off christianity, and the vatican, have a large power. Just look at how hard the media is trying to attack the Pope, and how much every one of his visits anywhere is a giant event. He holds more power than most presidents, and what would be more fitting for the heir of Peter ? But the christians doing wrong things are an amazingly small group...few thousands maybe, out of 1 billion christians ? compare that to what the muslims are doing and you will see which religion has a goal of conquest and which one has a message of peace...
I will not repeat my point on the contradictions: its all matter of interpretation. But our holy books were put together from the writings of the prophets by holy men who wanted everyone to receive and understand the Lord's message. There is no intention to control.
