Another wonderfully pisspoor design of the human body is that we are the only mammal that can not swallow and breathe at the same time. This is due to our voiceboxes which sit much lower than other mammals. It was an ad-hoc evolutionary trade off between being able to develop speech but unfortunately have the tendency to choke to death.

Other animals have no problem swallowing and breathing simultaneously.
