I don't think it helps the atheist cause to treat people like dirtbags

It doesn't seem to hurt Christianity when Christianity teaches that all people are dirtbags. And also that so many Christians treat all non-Christians like dirtbags.

So, you see, the fact that the forums are this way is not really about atheism at all. For in fact, treating people like dirtbags is a tradition as old as time, and this forum is a place where people can vent their rage if need be, and there are good reasons why this forum is the way that it is, and there's no reason why it should have to change.

No my dear! That's not what I said. THe forum should allow every insult imagineable as far as I'm concerned. It makes things exciting and interesting.

Individuals should recognize when they have gone too far. Being mentally ill myself and knowing many people who are psychologically fragile and wounded I object to what is going on.

I'm not saying the Mods should stop it or that there should be rules against it.

It doesn't help further the cause of Atheism if you are trying to convert someone to your views and treat them like shit. (unless it's me )
