I don't know if atheism benefits me or society, even if atheism did have direct obvious drawbacks I would still be an atheist because I can't force myself to believe something I find unbelievable.
If someone is an alcoholic and believing in god helps them then it's a benefit for them and if a large community have a mindset that without god they would just drink all day, take drugs and have unprotected sex and forget about education and their jobs then religion would benefit them.
I'd say the benefits for me personally is I've enjoyed all the sex I've had which has been guilt free and all the porn I've watched.
