I think that we are the only species with language is a coincidence. Evolutionary biology doesn't say that extremely valuable traits should be found in more than one species on a habitable planet. The only species that can communicate with each other using double articulation is man, although research into animal signals is still an ongoing process which yields new discoveries whenever we bother to look. Honestly there's nothing 'unique' about us or any other living thing for that matter - every animal has its own means of sending or receiving communicative signals, be it responses to external stimuli or phonemes and so on.
Many theists who assert man is not part of the animal kingdom (tell them they're going to eternal hell in torture is fine, but don't dare call them an evolved primate) argue that their communication systems rely on instinct, and not culturally, from one another. If that were true then what about Prairie dogs who greet each other with kisses? Cetaceans like dolphins or whales? These specimens, and more, display and exhibit complex vocalizations or linguistics involving their vocal cords or other.
Once again theists need to be reminded evolution is not a ladder (I'm getting tired of saying this guys); there is no one superior life-form or superior form of communication.
Geez this isn't limited to just life, even within technology there isn't one single form of communication or means of getting information from all the possible inputs, processes and outputs. Take a look at computers, they have various operating systems and numerous programming languages available, there is no ultimate platform or framework. Well okay, Adrian would argue there's Linux, but until that becomes easier to configure at the boot up I respectfully disagree.
