What I don't understand is why? I mean if you believe God is capable, happy, and indeed in the habit of directly and physically intervening, then why the attempt to rationalise a miracle! Goddidit is a perfectly reasonable answer from the theist position. And if goddindoneit then it's not a religious story anymore.
Maybe a change in tack is needed. If atheists argued that yes it happened but that it was entirely possible and reasonable without divine interference then the theists would start trying to cram the God magic back in to the story by raising all the things which are impossible WITH OUT God.
