Can Science and religion co-exist?

In South Carolina a bill proposed by an 8 year girl to make the mammoth the official state fossil has stalled in the state senate because some creatotard senator amended it to add praise Jesus and goddidit.

This type of religion is not compatible with anything but ignorance.

Yep but it isn't necessary for people to give up all belief in god in order to give up thinking the bible is a natural history reference.

I still think we go too far if we dismiss all religious belief on the basis of its worst fundamentalist forms.

There is a strong likelihood that if we'd grown up in the same circumstances as many theists we'd believe what they do. In my own case, just knowing an atheist led to my challenging the indignation I initially felt toward disbelief. Given how much I liked my uncle it was easier to re-evaluate my assumptions than to dismiss my direct assessment of his character.

I have to say that whateverist's generally non adversarial approach makes his views much more persuasive and harder to ignore.

And for the record I never heard you say anything which would count as bullshit, before or after your change. There really are reasonable ways to hold god belief which are compatible with science and a modern sensibility. One of my favorite television personalities, Bill Moyers, is a baptist and I very much respect his views on many matters.
