Just finished three histories of jazz.
These are what I checked out this week:
- American Prometheus: The triumph and tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer
- The Ministry of Guidance Invites You Not to Stay: an American family in Iran
- Patton: a genius for war
- War As I Knew It (Patton's memoirs)
I've read this; two comments:
1. She comes across as factual and even handed.
2. My Mormon brother hates her.
His exact words were "The misguided sister isn't necessarily wrong, but she should have been more responsible with her personal confusion and not publish something that isn't faith promoting". He admitted not reading the book, but said his ward bishop's interpretation was the basis for his opinion. He hung up when I asked if the bishop read it.

Holy shit. If half the stuff in this book is true, the Mormons are even more fucked up than I realized.
