I wouldn't call my atheism a 'conviction'. My atheism is a provisional position, and open to alteration if presented with evidence.
I find this very interesting. I never really thought about it -- I just always 'knew' that there was no God, that ghosts weren't real, and so on. When someone said to me that's called being an atheist, I started say I was an atheist. It had more to do with a feeling than anything else. But I am similar to you in a way, because if someone could prove to me that God existed, I would change my mind. Even though I am convinced that God does not exist. That's why I call it a conviction.
