Would you build your awesome new Death Star, requiring an externally generated shield, near a planet inhabited by wookies? Or by Ewoks?
I wouldn't - were I the Empire, I wouldn't build the damn thing near any living witnesses that weren't firmly in my grasp. Then again, I don't believe that a bunch of primitive Ewoks could defeat stormtroopers, either.
A movie like this - you have to suspend disbelief. I'm not saying it would be believable, but Wookies running amok and rippin' out stormtropper arms would be unbelievably *entertaining*.
In short, I would have written a script that didn't suck, were I George.
