The laws of inertia apply and people and mountains would go flying. Inertial dampeners (as in Star Trek ships) were 'invented' to prevent people going splatt every time the ship accelerated or decelerated.
But remember, not all Christians take the bible literally - at least not the smarter ones. We call the one's that take holy scripture literally, fundamentalists. There are fewer of those fundamentalists here in England. You Yanks can keep them! The other sort can live with the idea of evolution - heck, even the Pope has recently come out and said evolution is true (although he has the caveat that God was responsible). Miracles break the rules of science and we have never had an example of a miracle being objectively proven. So I think I'll do without God. He is superfluous to any rational explanation of events. And if we don't know something, we are honest enough to say we don't know yet, but our past experience as humans explaining 'mysteries' reassures us that one day we will be able to explain the some of the things that are as yet unknown or unexplained.
