If this is how the translation of the event came about I would have to say that teaching the scriptures in this way is not the correct thing to do. So many people do this and do not understand the harm they do and some probably don't care and that is unfortunate for the christain church to say the least. The first place I remember hearing that was from one of my aunts who is a practicing Catholic, but I have heard non-denominational, non-practicing Christians say the same thing over the years on numerous occasions. On the fact that it is not what the scriptures actually say and that teaching it that way is wrong, you and I are definitely in agreement. People calling themselves 'Christian' believe a wide variety of things. It is the nature of individual cherry picking.
