I've been depressed/sad and suicidal in the past (those are scary times for my loved ones), but depressed/apathetic is my normal state. I think about suicide a lot, but I doubt I'll ever actually do it.
But I must say that there are two things in life that do actually bring on people to the brink of suicide.
One is monotony, the other is the weight of your responsibilities crushing down upon you.
Amongst these, I'd say that monotony is the worst. I never had suicidal thoughts, but monotony would surely wear off on me.
