Were I to believe in a just, benevolent god I would, at the very least, expect some form of intervention when it comes to things like... oh, I don't know... the murdering of toddlers.

Again I ask, since you decided to skirt the question, why should God correct every problem we are responsible for, it is man who commits the sinful acts shouldn't we be held responsible for correcting things. Please try to answer the questions and stop your skirting.

The Bible actually has a story about this. The God character was blabbing and he said that he gave men a long list of rules to see if they were stupid enough to follow them, such as sacrificing their children. His thinking was that if people were smart they would recognize that the rules were BS and wouldn't follow them. But they were dummies and some of them did.

Like the Job story the intent could be to see what the survivors do when they experience disasters. For instance, if a person claims to believe in God does he get all mopey when bad things happen or does he just accept it as part of God's will? After all, one of the model prayers is that God's will will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. So if a psychopath kills a believer's family why would the believer get all bent out of shape? It was God's will.

It's like the Pope riding around in the pope mobile. He's demonstrating through his actions that he doesn't trust God to keep him safe from harm. If he really believed in his favorite deity he would accept whatever happens to him because it's all part of God's will, which he said a prayer about at least once in his life.

So if there is a God as depicted in the Bible it's foolish for believers to get all bent out of shape when disasters strike them. It's all part of God's will and he's just checking to see if they really believe. Out of the over 7 billion people on the planet now I'll bet that fewer than 100,000 actually believe in God. All of the other professed believers are just faking it.
