My dear BrokenQuill, there are some houses in the UK that still have toilets outside in the back garden!
Most modern UK houses have some kind of Central Heating, but not any air conditioning. I have never lived in a house with AC. The UK doesn't generally have a problem with us getting too hot, it's usually too cold or too wet (or both at the same time) .
If we want to let the cold in we traditionally open a window.
