There is absolutely nothing in the story that suggests a spiritual death, but simply a punishment for disobeying daddy. Find me the passage that says they suffer a spiritual death, please. Otherwise you're just blowing smoke.
You can spin the Bible however you want to justify it in your mind, but the facts are plain to see. God said they would die, never said spiritually, they didn't die as a direct result of eating the fruit.
Furthermore, if you take the whole story, and it's contents seems God didn't want humans to be just like Him and the other gods up there, (because look at the wording, he uses "Us") and banishes them from the Garden of Eden so they won't eat from the Tree of Life and become immortal.
Hmmm. Even just as a metaphorical story, God is a dick.
