The only thing it will make them reconsider is their method of suicide. When desperation reaches the point that taking your life becomes a valid option, being prevented from doing so in just one manner will only make that person find another. A much more effective way of dealing with the problem would be to find ways to tackle the root causes of the overwhelming desperation that leads to suicide.
This net is just another example of how our approach to mental health in this country is misplaced.
